The quarter

A marvel of
a milieu.

Grand boulevards surround the roughly 100,000-square-metre quarter comprising the four historic courtyards built as municipal offices between 1888 and 1916. With great respect for the structures’ landmark status, the façades and architectural features have been lovingly restored and the complex expanded.

Location & idea

A tour de force
of four courtyards
and eight buildings.

Bleichenhof, Stadthof, Treppenhof and Palaishof – the four Stadthöfe courtyards – are surrounded by a stately ensemble of buildings: Görtz Palais, Palaishaus, Stadthaus, Brückenhaus, Hofhaus, Markthaus, Fleethäuser and Bleichenhof.

Usage

Oui, oui
to flânerie.

Staircases, vaulted gates, passageways and the bridge arcade over Bleichenfleet canal ensure that all the courtyards are interconnected and the happy flaneur is treated to a charming vignette at every turn. Before you know it, a cornucopia of restaurants and bistros will beck-on. Interspersed between them, you’ll find café bars, a club, a gorgeous four-star boutique hotel with 124 rooms, and some 50 distinctive shops and exclusive stores. This is the Hamburg of vive la différence – you’ll find nothing like it anywhere else in the city.
